Red Mill Park

Red Mill Park is one of our favorite places. It’s very close to the brewery, and it’s our default dog-walking route. No matter what time of year, it’s a pleasant place to be. Quiet, despite the closeness of Rt. 15. Beautiful, as most woodish places in VT tend to be. A lovely place to watch as the seasons progress their way through the area, spring to fake summer to snow to summer to fall to winter.

A bunch of these itineraries are going to involve the Red Mill Park in one way or another, that’s what I’m getting to here.

Anyway, this itinerary is probably an hour and a half long trip, depending on your starting point and hiking speed. All of these places are open, and all of these places offer curbside pickup on purchases.

Start at the Jericho Country Store. They have a full menu of sandwiches, burgers, and wraps, all for take-out and/or curbside pick-up. They have an online menu, and ask that you call for pick-up between 9-11am, and 3-5pm. This, of course, works out perfectly for you, as you call in and get a sandwich around 11 in preparation for your walk in the park.

Follow Lee River Road back to rt. 15, take a right, and then your next left will take you to the brewery. Order online before hand, let me know in the notes that you’re planning on taking a hike and need the beer cold. I’ll pop your order into the fridge so it’s cold for you when you get here.

For this trip, I recommend The Genuine Moment saison paired with the Vermonter Panini.

Leave the brewery, take a right at the end of road on Rt. 15, cross the bridge and take your first right into the Red Mill parking lot. Drive to the end, park, and gather your goodies- the entrance to the hike is in the back corner. All along the well marked trail are ample places to sit by the water and enjoy a meal and a drink, the rushing Browns River, and the Vermont landscape.

If you’d like, at the end of the hike leave the parking lot, take a left onto rt. 15, and drive maybe a 1/2 mile to Snowflake Chocolates on the left. They are also offering online ordering and curbside pickup- if you decide to get something sweet for the way home, I’d recommend the Sea Salt Caramels. They’re delicious, and dangerous- whatever size box you get is probably the size box you’re going to eat.
